News has just reached Plant Enthusiast Towers that the ‘Ultimate Snowdrop Sale’ will take place on Saturday 24 January at Myddelton House Gardens in Enfield where hundreds of Gardening enthusiasts and Galanthophiles come to purchase rare and unusual snowdrops.
The sale starts at 10:30 until 12:00. Entry to the snowdrop sale costs £3.50 on arrival and all funds raised from the entry fee will go towards the restoration of E A Bowles’ Rock Garden.
Andrew Turvey, Head Gardener of Mydellton House Gardens, who trained at the Royal Horticultural Society, has an encyclopedic knowledge of the gardens and is not surprised that this event is growing in popularity each year:
“Last year’s sale was made extra special by the discovery of a new rare snowdrop displaying green markings on the inner segments and on the outer petals in the gardens of Myddelton House by expert Matt Bishop. A decade previously, Galanthus ‘EA Bowles’, named after the legendary plantsman who lived at the house and created the historic gardens between 1865 and 1954, was found there.”
Access to the eight acre gardens is free. Enjoy a wander through the Victorian Kitchen Gardens and don’t miss the beautiful Victorian Glasshouse Range with its exotic collection. Afterwards, drop into the Visitor Centre with its museum recounting the story of the renowned Mr Bowles himself and warm up with hot refreshments in the Tea Room which will be open from 09.00 to 16:00.
Due to the rising popularity of the Ultimate Snowdrop Sale it has been confirmed to take place for the next four years at Myddelton House Gardens.
