I was delighted to be asked to review this mushroom growing kit from the Espresso Mushroom Company.
Interestingly they take used coffee grounds, compress them and then inoculate them to allow people to grow crops of mushrooms.
The kit I was sent is a ‘Hot Pink’ Oyster Mushroom kit.
The kit contains a bag filled with a “brick” of compressed espresso grounds.
To start your farm you make a slit along a cross which is drawn on the brick with a felt tip by the supplier.
Then you soak the bag for 12 hours.
Well that sounds easy but I have never known anything to want to float with such determination! It just kept wanting to pop up!
Eventually I was able to weight it down enough, and it soaked for 12 hours.
Then it is simply a case of spraying the block with water twice a day.
At the end of week 1 the manufacturer says you get the start of little pink mushrooms.
So far at the end of week 1 I have…
Compare my results with those of the manufacturer for week 1
It has to be said that at week 2 there are still no signs of growth…
Perhaps my plans to become a mushroom farmer will have to go on hold?
However, in week 3 everything has changed and I am delighted to say, I am a mushroom farmer and am looking forward to a harvest of mushrooms very soon.
They look fabulous, and I have really got a lot of enjoyment and satisfaction out of growing them…
